FIGS Events Limited, whose launch is being held in London today (21 February), focuses on the organisation of technical events specifically for professional institutions, research and development organisations and societies. www.figsevents.co.uk
“Technical events and conferences are a core activity for any professional institution or organisation attracting high profile PR coverage and significantly contributing to the promulgation of technical advances across the remit of its membership and wider industry,” explains Fiona Morris, who has set up FIGS Events with Christine Martin.
“Members expect ‘their’ institution, or organisation, to be at the forefront of technical innovation which must also be reflected in the delivery of the event. We work in partnership with technical experts, providing the detailed planning required to produce an enduring reference source for the future, and meeting those all-important member expectations.
“By outsourcing event planning, the institutions and organisations are provided with additional expertise to support an element of the planning process be it organisation of a technical programme, or looking after all the elements of their events programme. In doing so, they are not losing touch with their members; we work closely with specialist groups and committees within the client organisation. We are finding considerable interest in what we offer and are already working on three key conferences taking place in the UK and The Netherlands.”
Long history in the specialist area
Between them Fiona Morris and Christine Martin have over 30 years’ experience in the niche area of technical event management.
Fiona Morris began her career in event management at The Law Society in the late 1980s until joining The Institute of Marine Engineers (now The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology) in 1998 as Events Manager. She left her position as Director of Events & Corporate Relations in 2012 to form FIGS Events Limited. Fiona has developed an active network of contacts and has organised numerous types of events from ceremonial occasions and dinners through to multi-streamed technical conferences.
Christine Martin started in events and conferences at The Royal Society of Medicine in 2004 and subsequently joined The Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology in 2007. As Events Manager, Christine focussed on the delivery of technical conferences and associated technical proceedings, as well as managing a wide variety of bespoke events for the maritime profession from technical lectures and award ceremonies to charity fund raising dinners and formal dinners.
“We fully recognise the influence of multi-media output and can manage this aspect of wider dissemination in collaboration with a grouping of technical experts,” explains Fiona Morris. “Social media and web casting will engage not only with regular event attendees but will enable its members and students, as well as the wider profession, to actively participate in conferences and events.
“Naturally, we manage the process according to an agreed timeline and budget, enabling all concerned to understand their role within the planning process and, most importantly, to enjoy an effective and enduring working relationship.”
